Waukee 2009-2010

Dear Parents,

Several of you I met last night.  I will be slowly changing this webpage to fit the needs of you, the parent, and that of your student.

I will be posting reminders of events, things going on in the classroom, and links that would help them out at home on the internet.

This is also a way of communication.  Students and you can write comments on the page, or ask homework questions if needed.  I will check the site in the evenings around 6-7pm.

You may be asking yourself why is Corning information still on here?  I have several past students and parents that still visit my site for links and information so I have saved that past years information for those parents.

I look forward to meeting more of you and getting to know your families this upcoming school year.

Reminder 1st day of school is tomorrow!

Good-Bye

At the end of the kindergarten school year I had planned on being around for them to see next year in first grade to help with their transition. However, a I have taken a job in Waukee Elementary that I couldn't pass up. I'll still pop up around Corning, my home roots, but I will not be returning to teach this upcoming year for Corning Community School District.

I wish the new first graders all the best this upcoming school year.

RISK

Mrs. Jarden came to visit KB this week. We talked about strangers and how to say no to strangers, run away, and tell an adult that we know.
Wednesday
We talked about good touches/sad touches and secrets today.
KB has talked about touches that make them happy like hugs, hi-fives, and hand shakes.
They also talked about sad touches: pushing, hitting, pulling hair, kicking, punching, and biting.

May's Final News Letter

Thank you!
Thank you to all of the grandmothers that came into read to our classThank you to the parents that will be joining us on our upcoming field trip down town. A huge thank you to those of you who have been a part of our class this school year.

Math that keeps on going……
Throughout the summer please keep challenging your student’s skills in math. Have them measure things like the rain, count change out when you are going shopping, count the cows in the field, telling the time when you are leaving. Whatever it might be please continue to have math in their daily lives.

Summer Reading
This summer I will send home 3 extra reading books, 1 at their level of reading and 2 that are a step higher. Reading is the most important thing to continue in the summer months so they are ready to continue on successfully in first grade.
Writing Around Ideas
Please continue to have your student write in the summer. One idea would be them journal about their day before heading to bed. KB loves to write words that they see, if you are in a restaurant you can have them write down the words they see. If they are outside they really enjoy writing down the things they see.

DVD/ Pictures
KB’s DVD will be sent home Monday, May 18th. If for some reason yours doesn’t work, please let me know before the end of that week. If you would like pictures burned to a CD or put on a jump drive I would be more than happy to do so if you provide those things before the end of the school year.

Math: Money

Reading: Wow they have taken off!
KB is working hard on reading and their fluency. We will start back at their guided reading in April. Reading everyday is important, the more the read and the more they are read to, the more fluent they can read. Parents keep up the good work!
